As a 3rd time mom, this obviously wasn’t my first or second rodeo.
With my first child, I packed so much and hardly used anything I packed. I believe I had a whole duffle bag of things just for me and baby.
Now the second time, I definitely learned from the first, but still packed more because I wasn’t sure if the experience would be the same from six years prior. I mean a lot changed in 6 years.
Now don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with overpacking, as I tend to do it often, but the last thing you want is to take a big suitcase to the hospital and come home to unpack it. Because who unpacks as soon as they get home with their brand new baby!
Fun fact:
All 3 of my babies were born at the exact same hospital
This third time, I actually didn’t pack my hospital bag until the day I gave birth! More on that story soon.
So don’t be like me!
Here’s what I packed in my hospital bag. Click the photo to shop!

- Toiletries– toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, face wash, etc.
- Hair supplies – hair ties, head scarf, hair brush, etc. I try to deliver in styles that are low maintenance and doesn’t require me to do much, i.e. braids
- Shower shoes– this is one thing I packed and just never used. I just don’t didn’t want to shower in the hospital and would rather wait to get home. But always packed just in case my stay was longer than I anticipated.
- Pajamas– if you want to get out of your hospital gown and into something more comfortable. Something easy to slip on.
- Robe/Cardigan – whatever you’re into. This time I packed a long cardigan and wore it instead of my robe.
- Slippers– Need something cozy to walk around in.
- Non-slip socks– I didn’t pack these the first time and learned my lesson. The hospital did give me some, but they were extra big. Definitely packed my own cute socks that actually fit to keep my feet warm.
- Nursing bras or tanks– you’ll practically live in these all the days of your breastfeeding journey. I actually just wore a nursing tank, lounge pants, and a cardigan. Not sure why I just didn’t decide to do this 2 deliveries ago.
- Loungewear – Remember comfort is key!
- Going home outfit for you and baby– something easy to put on for you and something cute for baby. Remember to pack according to the season in which you deliver.
- Baby blanket- for going home or if you’re wanting to take photos.
Other things I packed:
- Baby book – for their first footprints & other keepsakes
- Long charger cord
- Chapstick -DO NOT FORGET THIS!
- Snacks– you’ll be so happy you have them, especially depending on the time you deliver.
- Important documents/things- Driver’s license, insurance cards, and birth plan (if you have one). I forgot my insurance information, but luckily I pre-registered and they happened to already have my information on file since it didn’t change.
- Camera– we brought a GoPro with my second birth since no one could take birth photos due to COVID
- Boppy Pillow– helps with nursing.
- Cooler for Placenta Encapsulation-(more details on this soon).
- Baby outfits – if you’re wanting to take pictures while in hospital or place of birth.
- Car seat- Can’t forget the most important thing!
I hope this helps you when it’s time to pack your hospital bag!
