So I want to first say that with my second child, I have experienced a lot of things I did not with my first. The saying goes, “Every child is different” and my second is definitely challenging me. I like to call her my test baby.

One of the things that I noticed early on with Addysn is that her skin peeled for weeks! I was so concerned that after her second doctors appointment, I asked should she still be peeling?

Addy at 9 days old.

However, the peeling skin is nothing to be alarmed of. Turns out, the longer a baby is in the womb, the more fluids are on their body and it takes some time for their skin to get adjusted to life outside of mama.

I was just so concerned with the peeling because it just looked like it hurt.

However, one thing you don’t want to do is peel it! Let it come off itself. It can honestly be very tempting. It doesn’t last forever and usually goes away by the time they are a month old, so don’t panic. Love their scaly and peeling body!

Well she finally stopped peeling and then I immediately noticed bumps and what looked like a rash appear on her face, arms, and legs. Now I instantly thought it to be heat bumps or a heat rash. My 1st child, Aeryn, use to sweat so much in her sleep that she would get heat bumps but they would go away within a day.

Not these!

So like a mom, I started researching and googling things and self diagnosed her with baby acne, which also typically goes away but I didn’t want it to get any worse.

I stumbled across a blog from Aseky (@asekyb on IG) and decided to try the method that she used. However when I got to the store to get the products she used, a gut feeling told me otherwise. The rash didn’t look like just regular baby acne so I figured it could me eczema. I don’t have eczema nor does my husband. Again, I did not have these issues with Aeryn, so at this point I’m winging it!

So I went with my gut and here is how I got rid of her baby eczema/baby acne.

September 2020 – before products

First I brought the Mustela Baby Cleansing Water. This stuff for one smells so good! It’s not harsh on baby’s skin and is a good cleanser without using soap that may dry it out. It was a bit expensive to me, but totally recommend it. Every day I would take a cotton ball and a pump or two of cleansing water and clean her face, arms, and legs.

5 days after products have been used. Her bumps had began to clear but she still had a settle rash.

In the beginning, I was cleaning it after every diaper change, but once I seen it start clearing, I lessened the amount I was using. She’s now 9 months and I still use it!

After I cleaned it with the cleansing water, I went in with Eucerin Eczema Relief Cream. This is not a new product but this was key! I also used the Eucerin Eczema Relief Cream Body Wash and washed her hair with this as well, which also help me get rid of cradle cap. Blog on that coming soon!

8 days after products – her bumps had completely disappeared on her face, but she still has a little rash on her cheeks.

You could also use the Mustela Baby Gentle Cleansing Gel – Baby Hair and Body Wash to clean and wash their hair. I’ve heard all great things and if you’re into using the same brand for routines, it’s a great cleansing body wash for baby.

I didn’t see results right away, but within a few days I noticed the bumps clear up. Her face also became discolored, but it was the rash going away and her skin trying to heal. This was all so new to me and as she still struggles with eczema, I’m finding more remedies and products to help.

Don’t give bath every day. I was only giving baths about once or twice a week. You can use a cloth with warm water to bathe if you just want to clean your baby, but follow up with a moisturizer. Moisturize. Moisturize. Moisturize!

Stay consistent with it! I know it’s easier said than done but when I looked at Addy, it just looked like she was in pain and trying to scratch it. I had to help ease that pain and that was motivation for me.

Be patient! You probably won’t see results right away, at least I didn’t. But keep going and if it doesn’t work then try to substitute something. We’re all just winging it and figuring out what works for us and our babies!

Extra Tip – USE BREASTMILK! It’s not a secret that breastmilk has so many hidden uses, but if you are breastfeeding, try to either give baby a bath with it or take a washcloth and wipe them with it.

15 days after products. Bumps and rash is gone! There was some discoloration on her face because of the rash clearing up.
