Lets have some home school/virtual learning FUN!

Being at home “quarantined” for months can seem like the days are just passing you by. At least it’s feels that way to me. For kids, I’m sure the days pass a lot slower as they are not able to do some of the things they once did several months ago. My heart truly goes out to kids as I know their lives changed in an instant and some may not be able to fully understand what is going on. Why they can’t see their friends or grandparents? Or why they have to go to school online. I know for sure my daughter has mentioned to me multiple times that she misses her friends and her teachers.

I actually had a learning lesson with my daughter on COVID-19 just so she is aware and can understand why she is unable to do certain things such as, go to the trampoline park, have play dates with her friends, or go to the waterpark (all of which she has asked about). I felt that instead of telling her no, I wanted to give her a WHY. First, so she could stop asking me and secondly, because I felt she was old enough to understand and sympathize with the situation. At this time, I was pregnant so my husband and I were super cautious so didn’t we really go anywhere.

We watched a kid-friendly video on the virus that explains what it is and what we can do to stay healthy and stop the spread. After understanding and talking about the video, we painted a picture (it’s actually the DIY photo on the homepage) of the best part about being at home during the Coronavirus. Instead of focusing on what we can’t do, lets focus on the positive things we can do during this time. After all, staying positive and hopeful is imperative during these times. Here is the photo she drew.

The best part for her was spending time with her mom and dad. And I absolutely agree with her!

Unfortunately, the virus stuck around longer than I anticipated and we came to the realization that she was probably going to be out of school for the rest of her Kindergarten year. We both needed a little fun during our school/work day in our new homeschool classroom. Now we did have a lot of fun with the different crafts and other activities that we did (more on those coming soon), but I figured we needed something to moreso lift our spirits a little. So I thought it would be a great idea to do a spirit week! See what I did there! I loved spirit week when I was in school. It was an excuse to wear pajamas, be tacky, and do/wear something different.

Here’s our Coronavirus Spirit Week!

  • We’re going Stir Crazy!-Crazy Sock Monday
  • We’ll tackle this together!- Tacky Tuesday
  • Wacky Wednesday- Crazy Hat Day
  • Quarantine & Chill Thursday- Pajama Day
  • Freaky Friday– We switched places for the day (she dressed as me and was the teacher for the day and I dressed like her as a student). She really enjoyed this one!
Freaky Friday!

It was a needed spirit lifter (is that even a thing?) and we both enjoyed and looked forward to dressing up. It was something so small and easy, but made a huge impact on our mood and outlook during this new normal. During this upcoming school year, we will definitely have a few more spirit weeks, maybe some themed weeks to continue the positivity of virtual learning. I also love this because you can be creative as you want to be! It can be even more fun if everyone in your house participates! The more the merrier right?

Happy Home School/Virtual Learning Spirit Week!
